My husband and I are really tough graders, so this 5 STAR rating doesn’t come lightly. Our experience with Voell Custom Kitchen and Darren Day were fantastic in both design creativity and execution. We had a very challenging kitchen layout that was lacking a lot of function and space. We knew generally how we wanted things to work, but the vision on what to do was lacking. We had several designers in, some of the top in the DC region. We spent several months going thru designs, cabinet finishes, layouts, functional specs — and what Voell did for us stood out in the crowd. Their design creativity, ability to integrate our family room living space to the kitchen, the custom cabinetry options and stain, the multifunctional bar top, the added storage space, the design support with colors and textures and attention to every detail of what our family needed in a kitchen was miles apart from anyone else. In addition, the craftsmen (carpenter, tile, painter) were extremely professional, timely and just amazing people to work with. They paid attention to every detail and the quality of their work was beyond what we could have expected. Darren was everything you could want in a general contractor – watching the project every step of the way, always available, and connected with a deep network of vendors (for our tile selection, granite options, appliances, and fixtures). The finished product is nothing short of awesome, and we couldn’t have asked for more. We have never worked with a contractor that had the ability to design, consult, think outside the box, and execute — and do all of those things so well. We are looking to do a master bath remodel in the near future, and Voell is top of our list for that project.

The knowledge and experience of Voell Custom Kitchens (Darren Day) brought to our kitchen remodeling project was outstanding. We appreciated his many thoughtful suggestions and ideas. The amount of time that he gave in response to our questions went above and beyond. His professional knowledge and skill was very evident in his relationship with the contractor and the vendors. His selection of our backsplash and cooktop mural made the completion of our project exceptional!! We enjoyed working with Darren and would highly recommend him for any remodeling project.

I honestly, can’t thank Dennis and Voell Custom Kitchens enough. When I first started my search for the right kitchen remolding team, I ended up in tears multiple times. Then, I found Voell and Dennis and the whole process became so fun and so easy. I’m still in awe of the finished product and absolutely love my kitchen. It started as a tiny kitchen and Dennis found a way to absolutely maximize space to exceed my cooking and entertaining needs. The contractors he used were complete professionals and amazing to work with as well, particularly Dave. Darren did an outstanding job on my kitchen. This was my first time going through a home renovation so I did not know what to expect. The first cabinet place resulted in mock ups that left me questioning the project itself. Once I met with Darren he calmed all my fears. He gave us a beautiful kitchen that exceeded our expectations and really went above and beyond with recommendations and helping me source knobs, lighting, etc… Working with Darren I felt like he wanted my kitchen to be as beautiful as I did. I also cannot say how much I love storing my dishes in a drawer instead of the traditional cabinets!

Darren did a great job and we are delighted to recommend him and his client management skills, his project management skills and especially his eye for design. Let me take those one at a time:

Darren is a good guy, hires good men as subcontractors, and keeps his word. He was recommended by our interior decorator. He made us feel it was a shared adventure. He gave us lots of notice when there were bumps ahead.

Darren guided us through the entire process. We did a major kitchen / living room demolition that included removing a wall. He guided us through the design process including practical things like going through the drawers in our old kitchen to be sure there were places for everything in our new kitchen. He went beyond sink / stove / refrigerator practical design to helping us integrate stations – bar, baking, chopping, dishwashing, place setting storage for everyday and special dish settings between the dishwasher and dining table. He integrated the way we entertain into our kitchen. We are very pleased and our guests are very impressed.

For each contractor, Darren told us who they were, when they were coming, what they were going to do, and what to expect, before they came. I liked every subcontractor he brought into the house and would have them back. They all seemed to be at the top of their game and all spoke well of Darren.

The kitchen looks great! Ask to see the pictures. The proportions, the clever framing to generate a 1 1/2” deeper glassware cabinet, the way he used the shape of the granite to move guests into the middle of the room, all speak to his experience.
